Spider Pest Control Services
The Black Widow Spider
Known for their venomous bite, black widow spiders have shiny black bodies with a red hourglass shape on their underside. When they stretch out their legs, they are about 1.5 inches wide. The female’s bite is venomous, but the male spiders aren’t dangerous to humans. These spiders like to hide in dark spaces like basements, crawl spaces, garages, and woodpiles.
Important Note: If you think you have been bitten by a black widow spider, please see a doctor right away. The venom can cause serious illness and even death.
Here are several signs that you might have been bitten by a black widow spider:
- After a few hours, a round red mark will encircle the bite.
- Muscles hurt around the spider bite.
- The pain can last for 36 hours, days, or even weeks.
- The lower back, thighs, and calves may also hurt.
